Mini Split Installation in Southeastern Massachusetts
A ductless mini split is one of the most versatile comfort upgrades you can make to a New England home. A single outdoor unit connects to one or more wall-mounted (or ceiling and floor) indoor heads through a small line set — no bulky ductwork required. The result is efficient heating and cooling you control room by room, with no more fighting over a single thermostat for the whole house.
Mini splits shine in exactly the situations older Southeastern Massachusetts homes are full of: rooms that never stay comfortable, finished attics and basements, additions and sunrooms, and homes that were never built with central ducts in the first place. Because each zone has its own head and its own setting, you heat and cool the spaces you're actually using — which is both more comfortable and more efficient than conditioning the whole house to satisfy one stubborn room.
They're also one of the most heavily incentivized upgrades in the state. Modern cold-climate mini splits are true heat pumps — they cool like an air conditioner in summer and heat efficiently down into deep New England cold — and they qualify for strong Mass Save rebates. For homeowners looking to cut back on oil or expensive electric-resistance heat, a properly sized ductless system can change the math on a home's heating bills for years to come.
Great reasons to add a mini split
- A room or two that never stays comfortable, no matter the thermostat
- A finished attic, basement, bonus room, or addition with no good way to condition it
- A home (or section of it) that has no ductwork at all
- You want to cut back on oil, propane, or expensive electric-resistance heat
- A sunroom, home office, or in-law suite that needs its own comfort control
- Hot or cold spots on a single central system you can't balance out
- You want efficient cooling without the cost and disruption of adding ducts
- You're after quiet, room-by-room comfort and Mass Save rebate eligibility
What causes these problems
Most of the comfort problems mini splits solve come down to one thing: a single central system trying to serve spaces it was never designed for. Additions, finished attics, and converted basements are often tacked onto a duct system that's already at its limit, so they end up stuffy in summer and cold in winter. A dedicated ductless zone fixes the room directly instead of asking the whole-house system to do more than it can.
Older New England homes are a special case. Many were built with radiators or baseboard and simply have no ductwork to extend — and retrofitting ducts is invasive and expensive. Ductless mini splits were designed for exactly this: a refrigerant line set only needs a small wall penetration, so you get modern heating and cooling without tearing the house apart.
And for homes heating with oil or electric-resistance baseboard, the issue is cost as much as comfort. A cold-climate heat pump moves heat rather than burning fuel to create it, so it delivers far more heat per dollar. Used as the primary heat for the spaces you live in most, a mini split often pays for a meaningful share of itself in lower heating bills — which is exactly why Mass Save incentivizes them so heavily.
How it works
Our process
- 1
In-home assessment & load sizing
We evaluate each space you want to condition, your electrical, and where heads and the outdoor unit can go — then size every zone by its actual heating and cooling load, not a rule of thumb. Correct sizing is what makes a mini split quiet, efficient, and effective in deep cold.
- 2
Head placement & zone plan
We plan indoor head locations for even comfort and clean line-set routing, and decide between a single-zone or multi-zone setup based on how you actually use the rooms. You see exactly where everything goes before we start.
- 3
Rebates & financing handled
We identify the Mass Save rebates your system qualifies for, handle the paperwork, and set up financing so the project fits your budget.
- 4
Mounting & line-set installation
We mount the indoor heads, set the outdoor condenser on a level pad or bracket, and run the refrigerant line set, control wiring, and condensate drain with tidy, code-compliant routing.
- 5
Electrical & connections
We install the dedicated electrical circuit and disconnect the system needs and make all refrigerant, control, and drain connections to manufacturer spec.
- 6
Pressure test, nitrogen purge & evacuation
Before any refrigerant flows, we pressure-test the line set with nitrogen to confirm there are no leaks, purge it, then pull a deep vacuum to remove all moisture and air — the step cheap installs skip, and the one that determines whether the system lasts.
- 7
Charge, startup & commissioning
We verify the refrigerant charge, start the system, confirm heating and cooling performance on every zone, program the controls and remotes, and walk you through using it before we register your warranty and clean up.

“Kevin was great. He took the time with us to describe all options, and the pros and cons of each. His men did the job quickly and efficiently, leaving no trace other than the work they had done. It has only been a few days since they put in our system, but the difference from our old system is evident.”
