Furnace Installation & Replacement in Southeastern Massachusetts
Your furnace is the heart of your home's comfort through a long New England winter, and replacing an aging one is one of the smartest upgrades a Southeastern Massachusetts homeowner can make. A modern, properly sized furnace heats more evenly, runs far more quietly, and burns dramatically less fuel than the unit it replaces — which means lower bills every cold month and a house that holds its warmth instead of fighting for it.
Quality Home Heating & Air has installed and replaced gas and oil furnaces across the South Shore and South Coast since 1988. Every replacement starts with a proper Manual J load calculation — we size the furnace to your home, not to whatever was bolted in there years ago — and ends with a fully commissioned install we've measured and verified, not just a swap-and-go.
Most homeowners call us because an old furnace finally quit, heat bills keep climbing, or a cracked heat exchanger has made an aging unit unsafe to keep running. Whatever brought you here, we'll walk you through your options honestly — including high-efficiency models that qualify for Mass Save rebates and 0% financing — so you can make the right call for your home, your fuel type, and your budget.
Signs it's time to replace your furnace
- Your furnace is 15–20+ years old
- Repairs are getting frequent or expensive
- Heating bills keep climbing every winter
- Rooms heat unevenly or never feel comfortable
- The furnace short-cycles (turns on and off repeatedly)
- Strange noises — banging, rattling, or rumbling on startup
- A cracked heat exchanger or persistent burner problems
- Low efficiency (an old 60–70% AFUE unit) you want to upgrade
What causes these problems
Furnaces typically last 15–20 years in our climate — sometimes longer with good maintenance, often less when service has been deferred. As burners, igniters, blower motors, and heat exchangers age, efficiency falls and breakdowns cluster: a unit that needed one repair a couple of winters ago tends to start needing several in a row, usually on the coldest nights.
Sizing is the other big factor, and it's the one most often gotten wrong. An oversized furnace blasts heat, satisfies the thermostat fast, and shuts off — then cycles on again minutes later, leaving rooms hot-and-cold and wearing out components through constant stop-start. An undersized furnace runs nearly nonstop and still can't keep up on a bitter day. That's why we re-calculate the heating load on every replacement instead of simply matching the old BTU rating by default.
Finally, efficiency and safety matter together. Older furnaces often run at 60–70% AFUE, meaning a third or more of your fuel goes up the flue. And a cracked heat exchanger — common in older units — can leak combustion gases, which is a safety reason to replace rather than patch. Once a furnace is well into its second decade and facing a major repair, a modern 90%+ AFUE replacement almost always makes better long-term sense.
How it works
Our process
- 1
In-home assessment & load calc
We evaluate your home, ductwork, venting, fuel supply, and electrical, then run a Manual J load calculation to size the furnace correctly for your home.
- 2
Honest options & quote
You get clear good/better/best options with upfront pricing — efficiency levels, single-stage vs. two-stage or modulating, rebates, and financing — with no pressure.
- 3
Rebates & financing handled
We identify the Mass Save rebates you qualify for on high-efficiency equipment and set up financing so the project fits your budget.
- 4
Old equipment removed
We safely disconnect and remove your old furnace, protecting floors and walls along the path out of the home.
- 5
Professional installation
New furnace set, leveled, and connected — gas or oil supply, venting, condensate (on high-efficiency units), electrical, and a new thermostat — installed to code and manufacturer spec.
- 6
Startup & commissioning
We verify gas pressure or oil firing rate, airflow, temperature rise, and safe combustion so the furnace performs to its rating, not just 'lights and runs.'
- 7
Walkthrough & cleanup
We register your warranty, show you the new system and thermostat, and leave your home cleaner than we found it.

Repair or replace?
Not sure whether to repair or replace? A good rule of thumb: if your furnace is under about 10 years old and the repair is minor — an igniter, a flame sensor, a capacitor — repair usually wins. Once a unit is 15–20+ years old, needs a major component (blower motor, control board, heat exchanger), or runs at low efficiency, replacement is almost always the smarter long-term decision.
A simple test is the repair-cost rule: if a repair costs more than about a third of a new system and the furnace is well into its second decade, you're usually better off replacing. Factor in the fuel savings from a modern 90%+ AFUE furnace through a full New England winter, plus Mass Save rebates and financing, and replacement often costs less over time than nursing an old unit along.
Safety is the exception that overrides the math. A cracked heat exchanger can leak carbon monoxide, and that's a replace-now situation regardless of the unit's age — we'll never recommend running a furnace we consider unsafe. Outside of that, we'll always give you the honest answer for your situation; sometimes that's a repair. Our job is to help you make the decision you'd make if you knew everything we know.
