Water Heater Installation & Replacement in Southeastern Massachusetts
A water heater is one of the hardest-working appliances in your home — it runs every single day, often for a decade or more, and you rarely think about it until the hot water runs out or you find a puddle on the basement floor. When that day comes, replacing it promptly with the right unit, sized correctly and installed properly, restores reliable hot water and protects your home from the kind of water damage a failing tank can cause.
Quality Home Heating & Air has installed and replaced water heaters across the South Shore and South Coast since 1988. We install gas and electric tank water heaters, including high-efficiency models, and we'll match the unit to how your household actually uses hot water — not just swap in whatever size happened to be there before. Every installation is done to code, with proper connections, venting, and safety devices, and tested before we leave.
Most homeowners call us because an aging tank finally started leaking, hot water is running out faster than it used to, or repair costs no longer make sense on a unit well past its prime. Whatever brought you here, we'll give you honest options — including a high-efficiency tank or, if it's a better fit for your home, a tankless system — and we offer flexible financing so a sudden water heater failure doesn't have to strain your budget.
Signs it's time to replace your water heater
- Your water heater is 8–12+ years old
- Water around the base of the tank, or active leaking
- Rusty or discolored hot water, or rust on the tank itself
- You're running out of hot water sooner than you used to
- Rising energy bills with no change in usage
- Repairs are becoming frequent or no longer worth it
- Popping, rumbling, or banging noises from the tank
- The unit can't keep up with your household's hot water demand
What causes these problems
Tank water heaters typically last 8–12 years. Over time, sediment from our local water settles to the bottom of the tank, where it bakes onto the heating surface — that's the popping and rumbling you hear, and it forces the unit to work harder and burn more energy to deliver the same amount of hot water. Once efficiency drops and the tank is well into its second decade, you're usually paying more to run a unit that's nearing the end of its life.
The bigger concern is corrosion. The sacrificial anode rod inside the tank protects the steel from rusting, but it wears out over time. Once it's gone, the tank itself begins to corrode from the inside out — and a leak from the tank body (not the fittings) can't be repaired. When the steel fails, replacement is the only fix, which is why a leak at the base of the tank means the unit needs to come out before it causes water damage.
Sizing and demand matter too. A water heater that was fine when the house had fewer people, or before an addition or a new soaking tub, may simply be undersized for how you use hot water today. If you're consistently running out, the answer is often a larger tank or a higher first-hour rating — not nursing the existing unit along.
How it works
Our process
- 1
In-home assessment & sizing
We look at your household's hot water demand, the existing setup, fuel type, and venting, then size the new unit by capacity and first-hour rating so it actually keeps up.
- 2
Honest options & quote
You get clear good/better/best options with upfront pricing — gas vs. electric, standard vs. high-efficiency, and tankless if it suits your home — with no pressure.
- 3
Old water heater removed
We safely drain, disconnect, and remove your old tank, and haul it away for responsible disposal — protecting your floors and walls on the way out.
- 4
New unit set & installed
We position and level the new water heater, then make all water, fuel, and (for electric) electrical connections to manufacturer spec and code.
- 5
Connections, venting & safety
We complete the venting on gas units, install or reuse the proper temperature-and-pressure relief valve, expansion tank where needed, and shutoffs — all code-compliant.
- 6
Startup & testing
We fill and purge air from the system, fire the unit or energize the elements, check for leaks, and confirm it reaches the correct temperature.
- 7
Walkthrough & cleanup
We register your warranty, show you the shutoffs and controls, answer your questions, and leave the area cleaner than we found it.

Repair or replace?
Not sure whether to repair or replace? It comes down to the age of the unit and what's wrong with it. A water heater under about 8 years old with a failed thermostat, heating element, or thermocouple is usually worth repairing. But once a tank is past 10 years, or the problem is the tank itself, replacement is the smarter long-term decision.
The one thing you can't repair is a leaking tank. If water is coming from the body of the tank — not a fitting or valve — the steel has corroded through, and no repair will fix it. At that point the only question is replacing it promptly, before a slow leak becomes a burst tank and a flooded floor.
We'll always give you the honest answer for your situation — sometimes that's a simple repair, and we offer water heater repair too. Our job is to help you make the decision you'd make if you knew everything we know, then handle the work cleanly either way.
