Tankless Water Heater Installation in Southeastern Massachusetts

A tankless water heater heats water only when you call for it — there's no 40- or 50-gallon tank sitting in the basement constantly reheating itself. Open a tap and the unit fires, sensing flow and temperature and modulating its burner to deliver hot water on demand. The headline benefit most homeowners want is the obvious one: as long as you stay within the unit's sizing, you don't run out. The last person in line gets the same shower as the first.

Beyond endless hot water, the appeal is space and longevity. A wall-mounted tankless unit is roughly the size of a carry-on suitcase, freeing up the floor footprint a bulky tank used to occupy — real square footage back in a finished basement, utility closet, or garage. And because there's no stored water sitting under constant thermal and corrosion stress, a well-maintained tankless heater commonly lasts 18 to 20+ years, often close to double the service life of a conventional tank.

Quality Home Heating & Air has installed water heating equipment across the South Shore and South Coast since 1988. A tankless conversion is more than a swap — it touches gas supply, venting, and water connections, and it only delivers on its promise when it's correctly sized to your household and your incoming water temperature. We do water heaters (we are not a general plumbing company), and we do them right: properly sized, code-compliant, fully commissioned, and set up so the system stays efficient for years. We'll also walk you through Rheem and Ruud options, any efficiency rebate eligibility, and financing, so the decision is an easy one.

Reasons homeowners switch to tankless

  • You keep running out of hot water during back-to-back showers
  • You want to reclaim the floor space a bulky tank takes up
  • Your tank water heater is aging and you're planning ahead for its replacement
  • You're tired of paying to keep 40–50 gallons hot 24 hours a day
  • You want a longer-lasting unit — 18–20+ years vs. ~10–12 for a tank
  • You're renovating or finishing a basement and want the space back
  • You want higher efficiency and may qualify for an efficiency rebate
  • You'd rather not risk a tank failure flooding a finished space

What causes these problems

Tankless makes the most sense for households that value endless hot water, want to recover space, or plan to stay in the home long enough to benefit from the longer service life and lower standby energy losses. Because the unit isn't constantly reheating stored water, you stop paying to keep a tank hot when no one's home — and a properly sized unit comfortably handles the simultaneous demand of a busy household when it's matched to how you actually use hot water.

It is, however, a bigger project than a like-for-like tank swap, and the details matter. A gas tankless unit fires at a much higher input than a tank burner, so the existing gas line and meter capacity have to be checked and frequently upsized to feed it. Venting changes too — most modern condensing tankless units use sealed, direct-vent PVC rather than the old metal flue, which means new venting runs. We size all of this as part of the assessment so the unit performs to spec rather than starving for gas or air.

The one ongoing consideration in our area is water hardness. Southeastern Massachusetts has pockets of moderately hard water, and minerals can scale up a tankless heat exchanger over time, reducing efficiency and flow. The fix is straightforward — periodic descaling, and where it's warranted we'll set the unit up with isolation/service valves (and discuss a scale-reduction option) so future maintenance is quick and the heat exchanger stays clean. We'll give you the honest picture for your home before you commit.

How it works

Our process

  1. 1

    In-home assessment & sizing

We measure your real hot-water demand — fixtures used at once, plus the cold incoming groundwater temperature — and size the unit by flow rate (GPM) and BTU input so it never falls short on a winter morning.

  2. 2

    Gas & venting evaluation

We confirm your gas line and meter can feed the unit's higher input (upsizing the line where needed) and plan the sealed direct-vent venting route a condensing unit requires.

  3. 3

    Honest options & quote

You get clear good/better/best Rheem and Ruud options with upfront pricing — including efficiency level, any rebate eligibility, and financing — and no pressure.

  4. 4

    Old unit removed

We drain, disconnect, and responsibly remove and dispose of your old tank, protecting your home and floors throughout.

  5. 5

    Mounting & connections

We securely wall-mount the unit and make the gas, water, venting, condensate, and electrical connections cleanly and to manufacturer spec.

  6. 6

    Startup & commissioning

We set the output temperature, verify gas pressure, combustion, and venting, purge the lines, and confirm the unit delivers the right temperature at the tap.

  7. 7

    Service valves & walkthrough

We install isolation/service valves for easy future descaling, register your warranty, and show you how the system works before we clean up and go.

Good to know

Tankless Water Heater Installation — frequently asked questions

Yes — within its sizing. A tankless unit heats water continuously as it flows, so it won't run out mid-shower the way a tank does once it's drained. The key word is sizing: it delivers unlimited hot water up to its rated flow rate. That's exactly why we size by GPM and your incoming water temperature, so the unit comfortably covers the most demanding moment in your home — say, two showers and the dishwasher at once — without falling behind.

“Kevin was great. He took the time with us to describe all options, and the pros and cons of each. His men did the job quickly and efficiently, leaving no trace other than the work they had done. It has only been a few days since they put in our system, but the difference from our old system is evident.”
